Poster sizes, explained
The A sizes are the everyday ones: A3 (297 × 420mm) for notice boards and shop windows, A2 (420 × 594mm) and A1 (594 × 841mm) for walls and displays. The older trade sizes are still how venues and advertising sites work. Double crown is typically 508 × 762mm, quad (landscape, as used by cinemas) 1016 × 762mm, and 4-sheet 1016 × 1524mm. If you are putting posters on a specific site, ask the site for its exact size first, then tell us.
Paper or waterproof?
Standard poster paper suits indoor use and short campaigns. Anything going outdoors, or anything that has to survive rain and handling on a tour, should be on waterproof stock. We print both, and will tell you which fits.
Special finishes
For limited-edition prints, gifts and mementos, foil blocking adds a metallic detail that catches the light. We produce foil-blocked posters as mementos for touring artists. A heavier stock and a considered finish turn a poster into something people keep.
Printing a tour
A tour is a logistics job as much as a print job: several formats, a venue list, dates that move. We work from your schedule, print every poster in the right format, and deliver to every venue on time, anywhere in the UK. We do this for DHP Family and Blue Jeans Management, and we print quad posters for Broadway cinema.
What we need from you
Print-ready PDFs at the finished size with 3mm bleed. For large formats, images at a lower resolution than a flyer are fine because posters are viewed from further away. If you are not sure, send what you have.
Mistakes that cost time and money
The most common is blowing up a small file: a poster needs the detail of a large image, even if it is viewed from a distance. The next is text that is too small to read from across a street, which is how most posters are actually seen. Check a site’s exact size before you design, because a quad and a double crown are different shapes, and for anything outdoors make sure it is on waterproof stock.
